Our IT team is looking for an INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT) INTERN

VPUU NPC is a Public Benefit Organisation implementing multisectoral integrated area based upgrading programmes of neighbourhoods in townships and informal settlements. This is done in partnership with communities, municipalities, provincial and national government.

We work in an integrated team of community participation, socio economic development, operation and maintenance, planning and design, infrastructure development, and knowledge management towards sustainable urban neighbourhoods.

Our IT team is looking for an

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT) INTERN: R6 000/ month, Fixed-term contract 12 months               

Job Purpose:

To support the IT team with monitoring and maintaining the computer systems and networks of the organisation and within communities we work in.

Key Performance Areas:

    • Provide support to the IT team in the following areas:
    • Maintenance of software and hardware inventory and tracking systems; development of inventory lists and orders, stocks and stores electronic components;
    • Configuration and set up of servers to work with various programs; software installation; server backups and networked user backups;
    • Troubleshooting system and network problems and diagnosing and solving hardware or software faults;
    • Development of procedural documentation and relevant reports;
    • Supporting the roll-out of new applications;
    • Setting up new users’ accounts and profiles and dealing with password issues;
    • Testing and evaluating new technology;
    • Conducting safety checks on equipment;
    • Set up and maintenance of Wi-Fi networks in communities;
    • Conduct trainings on standard software packages.

    Requirements:

    • B degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, B Tech in Information Technology, B.Com Information System;
    • Effective oral/written communication skills in at least 2 of the following languages: English, isiXhosa, Afrikaans
    • Commitment to meet deadlines in a pressured environment;
    • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, as well as creativity and the ability to work with abstract concepts;
    • Interpersonal skills to support interaction and collaboration amongst the team;
    • Convey complex ideas and concepts to all levels;
    • Pursues self-development and learning of emerging technologies and best practices in field;
    • Valid Code EB drivers’ license
