A self-defense course, run by the Stay Safe team, was held in Villiersdorp on Sat 20 January. Women between 16 and 35 were invited to participate in this free workshop.
It was evident that the 20 girls/women that did attend were united in their desire to learn how to protect and empower themselves. Several of the women relayed personal accounts of abuse and violence and shared their accounts of early childhood trauma following the theoretical component of the workshop.
During the physical training, there was a collective energy of “practice with focus and determination” and the desire to leave the training arena feeling more aware, more confident and physically equipped to deal with potential threats to their personal safety in the future.
All attendees received certificates on co›mpletion of the workshop.
