Halfway through 2016 we set up a WIFI network in our new Harare Offices similar to the one that had been working in Lotus Park NHC since October 2015. We have not only seen how access to broadband internet has brought us more together as a team but also how it brings us all closer to the wider world. From humble beginnings we now provide more than 600 unique users with internet access.
In addition to fixed wifi, we have deployed a number of mobile routers that convert 3G data into wifi for up to 10 users at a time. These support the field operations where fixed wifi is not an option. The mobile TP-Link routers have assisted with ECD, NHW, AHR, O&M, and CRO operations as well as providing a temporary solution in our Villiersdorp office. Note that due to the cost of 3G data these routers should be used only for operational support services and not for data-hungry content such as streaming video.
The race is on! And Lotus Park is doing well. A study of public wifi use in Tshwane showed that by far the greatest use was for career advancement (CVs, job searches/applications).
While the intention is not to be selfish with our unlimited data package we are aware that too many users will slow down the stream, rather like the overburdened taps in Monwabisi Park.
In Lotus Park the password is LPNHC1605, in Paarl East it is thus0ng2016 and in Harare Square it is vpuu12345 (pass words are case sensitive). Please do make use of the utility when you are based at those venues and by all means share the details with those working with VPUU. If the service is interrupted or absent then please report the problem to the local office.
